Description
Seymour Duncan has been building the JB and Jazz since the 1970s, but the Antiquity series asks a different question: what would one of those original sets sound and look like today, decades on? Rather than guess, Seymour drew on pickups from his own vintage guitars to develop a proprietary aging process that ages both the tone and the cosmetics — this JB/Jazz pairing is the first 70s-era design to get that treatment, finished in a classic Zebra coil combo.
Tonally, the aging isn’t just cosmetic. Custom de-gaussed, rough cast Alnico V bar magnets have a mellower pull than fresh magnets, which softens attack and rounds off harmonics without dulling clarity. The JB brings its familiar snarl and sustain for lead work at 16.4k Ohms DC resistance and a 5.5kHz resonant peak, while the Jazz in the neck balances it with articulate warmth at 7.72k Ohms and a 7kHz resonant peak — together giving you that push-pull of grit and clarity Duncan fans chase.
Built for players who want their dual-humbucker guitar to sound as lived-in as it looks, especially on instruments that have already earned some road wear. Construction includes:
- Electronic and cosmetic aging
- Long mounting legs
- Single conductor wire
- Maple spacer
- Butyrate bobbins
- Custom de-gaussed rough cast Alnico V bar magnets
This bundle also throws in a set of Ernie Ball EB2223 Super Slinky strings, so once your new pickups are wired in, you’ve got fresh strings ready to go for the first plug-in.
