Description
The APH-1N is Seymour Duncan’s neck-position take on vintage PAF tone, voiced around an Alnico 2 magnet and moderate coil winds. That combination gives you a softer attack and a rounder, sweeter top end than a hotter humbucker — the string just breathes more, which translates into longer, more natural sustain.
Where this pickup really shines is with amps doing the dirty work. Push a cranked tube amp and the APH-1N cleans up beautifully when you dig in less, letting you go from singing lead tones to glassy near-clean rhythm without touching a knob. That responsiveness is exactly why it’s a favorite among classic rock players who want their distortion to come from the amp, not baked into the pickup itself.
Compared to Seymour Duncan’s ’59 model, the Alnico II Pro trades some of that pickup’s tightness for a rounder voice and a noticeably spongier, more compliant bass response — think warmer jazz chords, smoky blues bends, and slide work that stays musical instead of harsh.
- Alnico 2 magnet for warm, vintage-leaning tone
- Moderate-output winding for natural dynamics and sustain
- Four-conductor hookup cable for coil-split wiring flexibility
- Black cover, no logo
- Neck position humbucker
Well suited to jazz, blues, classic rock, and slide guitar where warmth and touch sensitivity matter more than raw output.
