Description
Slash has one guitar he trusts above all others for recording, and it’s been that way since 1986. The APH-2N is Seymour Duncan’s answer to replicating that exact neck pickup tone in any Les Paul or humbucker-loaded guitar you own – built so his other, more roadworthy “live guitars” could finally sound like the record.
Under the cover sits an Alnico 2 magnet, the same foundation as the standard APH-1 Alnico II Pro. What sets this one apart is the winding: output is nudged up just enough to coax out that signature blend of creamy sustain and gritty crunch that defines Slash’s playing across countless tracks. Seymour Duncan also carried over period-correct details from the actual pickups in his ’86 guitar – single-conductor cable, a long-legged bottom plate, and a wooden spacer – so this isn’t just a tone approximation, it’s a build spec match. It’s also the pickup found in Gibson’s current Slash model Les Paul.
Tone character: Warm and moderate output, at home in jazz, blues, and classic rock settings where dynamics and note clarity matter as much as grit.
- Alnico 2 magnet for smooth, vocal-like response
- Slightly hotter wind than the standard APH-1 for added push
- Period-correct single-conductor cable, long-legged baseplate, wooden spacer
- Works beautifully in Les Pauls, plus hollow and semi-hollow bodies
- Available in black, zebra, or reverse zebra – pair zebra (neck) with reverse zebra (bridge) to match Slash’s own guitar
For the full experience, run a matched set with the APH-2 bridge version, and consider pairing with an SFX-11 Twin Tube Blue overdrive-distortion pedal for leads that sing and chords that command the room.
