Description
Seymour Duncan built the Black Winter for players who treat distortion like a weapon, not a garnish. Think Scandinavian black metal and death metal riffing: cold, merciless, and dense with low-end grime that still lets solos cut through the wall of gain rather than dissolve into it.
The voicing leans on punishing mids and a controlled bass response so double-kick blast beats and palm-muted riffs stay tight instead of turning to mush, while the treble retains enough bite for articulate lead work. Neck and bridge pickups are calibrated together, so switching between them feels like a shift in attitude rather than a drop in output or clarity. Both are vacuum wax potted, keeping feedback and microphonic squeal out of the picture even at brutal gain levels.
Hand built in Santa Barbara, CA, the Black Winter set ships in standard 6-string sizing, with the set also available for 7 and 8-string guitars in passive mount with naked coils, or in Active Soapbar mount with exposed pole pieces. Each pickup uses 4-conductor lead wire, giving you the flexibility to wire for series, parallel, split, or phase options as your rig demands.
