Description
Some pickups chase warmth. The Black Winter set chases the void. Seymour Duncan built this humbucker pair specifically for black metal, death metal, and whatever other underground style needs tone that sounds genuinely hostile rather than just “high output.” Think frostbitten mids, biting treble, and low end that stays tight instead of collapsing into mush under a wall of distortion.
What makes this set work for extreme playing is the balance underneath the aggression. The neck and bridge pickups are calibrated together, so tremolo-picked riffs stay punishing and articulate, while leads cut through without turning brittle or harsh. There’s plenty of string sensitivity too, which matters when you’re riding the edge of feedback on purpose.
Each pickup is hand built in Santa Barbara, CA, and comes with 4-conductor lead wire, so you’re not locked into a single wiring scheme — split it, series/parallel it, whatever your rig calls for. Vacuum wax potting keeps things quiet and squeal-free even at merciless gain levels.
Available configurations include:
- Standard 6-string, passive mount
- 7 and 8-string passive mount with naked coils
- Active Soapbar mount with exposed pole pieces
This particular set arrives finished in black and includes a free set of Elixir Custom Light guitar strings, so you can get the whole rig sounding brutal from the first riff.
