Some pickups chase warmth. The Black Winter chases devastation. Seymour Duncan built this set specifically for black metal, death metal, and every other basement-born genre that demands riffs with teeth and solos that still cut through the wall of gain.
The voicing leans dark and gritty, but it’s not a one-note pickup — mids, treble, and bass are balanced so palm-muted destruction and lead articulation both come through clearly. Expect crushing distortion, punishing midrange presence, and enough string sensitivity to track fast picking without turning to mush. The bridge and neck units are calibrated together, so switching between them feels like part of the same aggressive voice rather than a tonal step down.
Each Black Winter pickup is hand-built in Santa Barbara, CA, and vacuum wax potted to kill microphonic squeal at high-gain volumes. It ships with 4-conductor lead wire, giving you room to wire in coil-splitting or series/parallel options if your setup calls for it.
