Skip the soldering iron and jump straight to that glassy, bell-like 50s Strat sound. This white pickguard arrives fully loaded with Seymour Duncan’s Vintage Staggered pickup set, so all you have to do is transfer your strings, drop it into an 11-screw USA-pattern body, and wire up the output jack.
The magic is in the details Duncan has been chasing since 1978: hand-ground Alnico 5 rod magnets staggered to the correct vintage spec, and heavy Formvar-coated wire wound in a way that delivers crisp treble attack without losing low-end focus. Chords stay articulate and separated note-to-note, with the bounce and sparkle that made original 50s Strat pickups legendary.
This isn’t three identical pickups slapped together — it’s a purpose-built set. The neck pickup is standard wound for classic chime, the middle is reverse-wound/reverse-polarity for silent, quacky in-between positions, and the bridge is slightly overwound to even out the balance across all five positions. Every pickup is hand-assembled on period-correct Forbon flatwork, hand-filed, lacquer-dipped, and finished with waxed cloth pushback hookup wire and a traditional keyed bottom plate, then wax potted to kill microphonic squeal.
Behind the scenes, the pickguard itself is wired with high-quality pots, a reliable selector switch, and a period-appropriate cap — all connected with vintage-style cloth push-back wire for an authentic look under the hood as well as on top.
