Description
Some of the most iconic tones in blues rock weren’t planned — they were happy accidents. Legend has it that one guitarist’s signature sound came from a humbucker with its magnet installed the wrong way round. The Seymour Duncan Green Magic Neck pickup takes that fluke and turns it into a feature.
Play it on its own and you get exactly what you’d expect from a vintage-flavored Alnico II humbucker: warm, rounded neck tone with plenty of character. But flip to the middle position alongside a Green Magic bridge pickup, and the reversed magnet throws the two units out of phase. The result is that thin, hollow, almost single-coil-like clarity that made late-’60s blues rock guitarists sound like they were playing something otherworldly.
It’s a clever way to get an extra, genuinely distinct voice out of your guitar without touching your wiring philosophy or adding switches — just swap in the set and let the magnet do the strange work it was born to do.
