The STK-S9b Hot Stack Plus is Seymour Duncan’s answer for players who want single-coil sparkle without the 60-cycle buzz. Built on Duncan’s patented Stack Plus platform, it stacks two coils vertically so they cancel hum electrically – no need for a humbucker-sized cavity or a tone-sucking compromise. This is the hotter sibling in the Stack Plus line, pushing more output and grind than the Classic Stack Plus while keeping the pickup’s “negative hum” cancellation intact.
Alnico 5 rod magnets give it a punchy, slightly aggressive edge with plenty of high-end shimmer still poking through, and the 20.3k DC resistance puts it solidly in hot-single-coil territory – enough push for crunchy rhythm work and searing leads, but still articulate enough for cleaner playing when you back off the gain. It’s a versatile bridge pickup that covers a lot of ground: think twangy country runs, poppy clean tones, gritty blues bends, and straight into classic and heavy rock riffing without swapping guitars.
