The Hot Strat RW/RP is Seymour Duncan’s answer for players who love the true single-coil snap of a Strat but want more muscle behind it. It sits above the SSL-5 and SSL-6 in the lineup, trading some top-end sparkle for added sustain, fullness, and raw output — the kind of tonal shift that suits country twang just as easily as blues grit, classic rock crunch, or heavier riffing.
Under the cover, taller flat Alnico 5 pole pieces push a deeper, stronger magnetic field through the coil, while extra winds of wire pack in more power. The result is a pickup with real weight and drive, without losing the single-coil character that makes a Strat sound like a Strat.
Because this is the reverse-wound/reverse-polarity version, it’s designed to be paired with a standard-wound pickup in an adjacent position — typically the middle slot — so you get hum cancellation when both pickups are selected together. Many players build out a mixed set, dropping this hotter unit into the bridge alongside vintage-output SSL-2’s in the neck and middle for a versatile spread of tones across the pickguard.
