Built with Dave Mustaine’s thrash pedigree in mind, the LiveWire Active set takes two of Seymour Duncan’s most trusted passive designs — the SH-4 JB and SH-2N Jazz Model — and reworks their resonant frequencies to work with an onboard active preamp. The result is a pickup set that hits harder and cleaner at high gain without turning into a compressed, lifeless mess. You still get that organic, “Seymourized” character; you just get more headroom and output sitting on top of it.
Under the hood is discrete Class A circuitry running at up to 25 volts, which keeps noise low and dynamics intact even when you’re pushing the front end of a high-gain amp. The low-profile coil geometry helps with efficiency and touch sensitivity, so pick attack and playing dynamics still come through instead of getting flattened by the extra output on tap.
Cosmetically, the black nickel-plated covers give the set a clean, pro look while keeping tonal coloration to a minimum. This is a set built for classic rock, punk, garage, thrash, old-school and nu-metal, black metal, and other aggressive, high-gain styles where you need clarity and punch in equal measure.
