Description
Mark Holcomb doesn’t just play technically demanding music — he built the pickups to match it. As one of Periphery’s guitarists, Holcomb needed a set that could handle dense, angular riffing and soaring solos without losing definition, and that’s exactly what the Alpha & Omega set delivers for 7-string players.
The Omega bridge pickup is the aggressor of the pair, dishing out a percussive low-mid growl that feels almost violent under palm-muted chugs. But it’s not one-dimensional — there’s a layer of top-end clarity riding over that low-end punch, so intricate chord voicings and rapid single-note runs stay articulate even when the mix gets crowded.
The Alpha neck pickup breaks from typical neck-pickup convention. Rather than going purely warm and rounded, it borrows attitude from the bridge position, retaining a fat, glassy character while still letting your pick attack and fretting-hand nuance shine through — ideal for players who lean on dynamics as much as distortion.
Both pickups are handmade in Santa Barbara, California, and finished in black to match the rest of your rig.
