Description
Some pickups just handle distortion. The Nazgul is built to thrive in it. Seymour Duncan engineered this passive 8-string bridge humbucker specifically for extended-range guitars living in drop tunings under stacks of gain, where lesser pickups turn to mush.
A large ceramic bar magnet paired with custom winding gives the low strings serious punch without letting the bottom end get boomy or undefined. Chords stay articulate, palm-muted chugs land with real weight, and pick attack cuts through even at absurd gain levels. Backing off the gain doesn’t expose any weaknesses either — clean tones come through clear and bell-like, so this isn’t a one-trick metal pickup.
Construction details that matter for tone and reliability:
- Large ceramic bar magnet for high output and tight low-end control
- Nickel silver bottom plate
- 4-conductor lead wire, opening up coil-split and series/parallel wiring options
- Vacuum wax potted to eliminate microphonic squeal at high gain
- Passive mount design, drops into standard routing without modification
- Black cover finish
Hand-built at Seymour Duncan’s Santa Barbara, CA factory, the Nazgul was made for 7 and 8 string guitars specifically — not adapted from a 6-string design. For players chasing a complete tonal picture, pairing it with the Sentient neck pickup covers both the aggressive bridge tones and smoother lead/rhythm textures prog and modern metal players tend to need.
