Description
Billy Gibbons didn’t need a pedalboard full of gain to sound mean — he had a ’59 Les Paul loaded with pickups that just did the work for him. The Pearly Gates set is Seymour Duncan’s tribute to that guitar, and it nails the brief: warm and vintage-flavored at its core, but pushed just a touch hotter so the breakup comes in early and the sustain keeps rolling long after you’d expect it to fade.
What sets Pearly Gates apart from a stock vintage-output humbucker is the top end. It’s bright without turning brittle, letting pinch harmonics leap out unprompted and giving single-note runs a vocal, cutting quality that still stays sweet in the mix. There’s an edge of rudeness in there too — exactly the kind of attitude that suits blues-rock, Southern rock, jam-band noodling, and classic hard rock alike.
The SH-PG1N (neck) and SH-PG1B (bridge) come as a matched pair, each wired with four-conductor cable so you’ve got the flexibility to wire in coil-splitting, phase switching, or series/parallel options if your guitar’s controls support it. Nickel covers keep the look classic and slightly darken the voice compared to open coils.
- Slightly hotter than vintage output, with strong sustain and articulate top end
- Neck and bridge positions covered — commonly run as a complete two-pickup setup
- Best suited to brighter-voiced guitars: maple/ebony fretboards, hollow and semi-hollow bodies
- Four-conductor hookup wiring on both pickups
- Includes a free set of Elixir light electric guitar strings
If your guitar’s a little dark or muddy on its own, this is the set that wakes it back up.
