Description
The Pearly Gates set exists because someone wanted their ’59 Les Paul Standard tone without gambling on a vintage pickup that might’ve lost its magic decades ago. Seymour Duncan reverse-engineered that raw Texas blues-rock growl and packed it into the SH-PG1N (neck) and SH-PG1B (bridge), a matched humbucker pair that runs a touch hotter than true vintage output but keeps every bit of the sweetness that made those old PAFs famous.
What you get is a pickup that’s not shy about its manners – sustain for days, a bright top end that pushes harmonics out front and center, and just enough attitude to feel a little rude when you dig in. Blues players love it for that reason, but it covers classic rock, southern rock, jam band noodling, and hard rock without breaking a sweat. Each pickup ships with four-conductor hookup cable, so you’ve got the wiring flexibility to go coil-split or phase-switch if your setup calls for it.
This set leans best on brighter-voiced guitars – think maple and ebony fingerboards – where the Pearly Gates’ clarity has room to shine rather than getting buried in warmth. Hollow and semi-hollow bodies also respond beautifully to it. Most players run the pair together, neck and bridge, for a complete setup that covers cleans through overdrive.
