Description
The Quarter Pound Set pairs Seymour Duncan’s STL-3 bridge pickup with the STR-3 neck/rhythm model, giving you a matched-tone, matched-output combo built for players who want single-coil clarity with serious muscle behind it.
What sets these apart is the pole piece diameter — a full 1/4″ on the STL-3 lead pickup — which creates a stronger magnetic field and lets Seymour Duncan use a custom coil winding to push output well beyond a typical single-coil, into humbucker and hot P-90 territory. You still get true single-coil character: sharp treble bite, articulate top end, and a midrange that stays thick and powerful even when you slam it with gain. It’s a great match for classic rock, jazz-rock fusion, heavy rock, and aggressive instrumental playing where you need the pickup to keep up with an overdriven amp.
The STR-3 rhythm/neck pickup is voiced to match the STL-3 in tone and output, but uses smaller 3/16″ pole pieces and comes fitted with a chrome-plated brass cover, giving neck-position warmth without sacrificing the set’s overall punch.
- Set includes STR-3 (neck/rhythm) and STL-3 (bridge/lead) pickups in black
- High-output true single-coil design — output level rivals humbuckers and hot P-90s
- STL-3 uses 1/4″ pole pieces; STR-3 uses 3/16″ pole pieces with chrome-plated brass cover
- Well-suited to balanced instruments with either maple or rosewood fingerboards
- Includes free strings
If your Strat needs more grit and drive without giving up single-coil bite, this matched set is built for exactly that job.
