Description
If your ears crave that raw, hard-riffing late-70s edge but you don’t want the mud that usually comes with cranking up the gain, the Saturday Night Special set splits the difference beautifully. Seymour Duncan voiced these humbuckers with Alnico 4 magnets to land right between the softer, lower-output vintage 50s PAF vibe and the more compressed, hot-rodded pickups of today.
In the bridge, expect a fatter, hotter push than a traditional PAF — enough snarl to drive an amp into breakup without turning to sludge. Flip to the neck position and things clean up nicely: less of that woolly, undefined low-end mush, more clarity and note separation, so chords and leads both stay articulate even when you’re digging in hard.
These pickups are wound in Santa Barbara, California on an original Leesona machine — the very same style of winder used to build the first PAFs back in Kalamazoo — so there’s real pedigree behind the sound. Each pickup ships with four-conductor wiring for full coil-splitting flexibility, along with a maple spacer and short mounting legs for easy installation.
This particular listing is the black bobbin humbucker set, and it arrives with a free set of Elixir Super Light guitar strings thrown in — a nice bonus while you’re already in there swapping electronics.
