Description
The Screamin’ Demon takes the airy, articulate character of a vintage PAF and cranks up the attitude. Seymour Duncan wound the coils slightly hot and paired them with an alnico 5 bar magnet to push midrange out of the way while keeping the top end vocal and cutting. The result reads as scooped and aggressive rather than muddy or compressed — pick attack stays defined no matter how much gain you throw at it.
Part of the design quirk here is the pole piece layout: one row of standard adjustable screws paired with a row of shorter Allen head screws, a combination that shapes the pickup’s distinctive voice. Rated at 10k, it was built primarily as a bridge pickup for players chasing that 80s-sizzle sound, but it also works well in the neck position when matched with a hotter humbucker in the bridge — think 59 neck or Jazz neck humbuckers for a well-balanced two-pickup setup.
Construction details that back up the tone:
- Alnico 5 bar magnet for open, dynamic response
- Nickel silver bottom plate
- 4-conductor lead wire for coil-split, series/parallel, and other wiring options
- Vacuum wax potted to eliminate microphonic squeal
- Hand built in Santa Barbara, CA
This listing is for the Reverse Zebra finish. If your rig calls for a pickup that stays articulate under heavy distortion without losing that vintage-inspired openness, the Screamin’ Demon delivers exactly that.
