Description
The SH-1 ’59 set is Seymour Duncan’s word-for-word tribute to the original “Patent Applied For” humbucker that started it all. Rather than chase a modern spin on the PAF sound, Duncan simply rebuilt it: same alnico magnets, plain enamel-coated wire, nickel-plated studs, a wooden bobbin spacer, and black paper tape holding the coils together. Nothing here is reinterpreted — it’s reconstructed.
What that faithfulness buys you is the real vintage voice: airy highs that never turn brittle, a smooth midrange push, and enough clarity to keep chords from turning to mud when you dig in. The balanced coil winding keeps neck and bridge working together rather than fighting for headroom, so the set reads as a matched pair rather than two pickups thrown together.
Each pickup uses single-conductor braided shielded cable, which locks you into the classic wiring approach these pickups were designed around — no coil-split gymnastics, just straight-up PAF tone the way it was meant to be heard.
This set comes finished in nickel and includes:
- Matched neck and bridge SH-1 ’59 humbuckers
- Wiring diagram for installation
- Mounting screws
- A free set of Ernie Ball Slinky strings
If your amp and fingers are ready for a genuine ’59-spec PAF, this is about as close as you’ll get without a time machine.
