The SH-11 Custom Custom takes the smooth warmth players love from Alnico 2 magnets and layers on extra midrange bite you’d normally expect from a hotter-wound pickup. The result lands somewhere between vintage sweetness and modern push – full-bodied chords with a lower-mid growl that adds weight without turning muddy.
Where this pickup really sets itself apart is up top. Solos come through with a rounder, fatter treble response than most humbuckers in its class, giving single-note lines a singing, almost vocal quality rather than a harsh edge. It’s a great choice if your current bridge or neck pickup feels thin and you want to inject some body and sustain without losing clarity.
For a well-rounded pickup set, Seymour Duncan suggests pairing the Custom Custom with a Jazz model or a Pearly Gates in the neck position – giving you punch and warmth on one side and articulate cleans or classic rock crunch on the other.
Each SH-11 is hand-built in Santa Barbara, CA, using an Alnico 2 bar magnet and a nickel silver bottom plate. It ships with 4-conductor lead wire, so you’ve got the freedom to wire it for coil-split, series/parallel, or standard humbucker output. Vacuum wax potting keeps things quiet at high gain, with no microphonic squeal to worry about.
