Description
The SH-16 59/Custom Hybrid isn’t a single-formula pickup—it’s a mashup. Seymour Duncan took the screw coil from the vintage-flavored ’59 and paired it with the slug coil from the hotter Custom, landing on a humbucker that splits the difference between old-school chime and modern grind. The result is a bridge pickup with articulate top end, low strings that stay tight and punchy, and a midrange that growls without turning to mush. If your playlist bounces between blues, classic rock, and pop, this coil combo covers the ground.
- Alnico 5 bar magnet
- DC resistance: 11.5k
- Hybrid coil design: ’59 screw coil + Custom slug coil
Where it fits
Built for the bridge slot, ideally paired with a vintage-output neck humbucker like the ’59n or Alnico II Pro—giving you a balanced two-pickup voice from clean rhythm tones to overdriven leads. It’s happy in any well-balanced dual-humbucker guitar, regardless of whether your fretboard is maple or rosewood.
Worth knowing
Wire it with a traditional coil split and you’ll pull out the beefier Custom coil on its own for a punchier single-coil-style tone. The SH-16 is also offered in nickel or gold cover finishes, plus Trembucker spacing (as the TB-16) and a 7-string version, if your setup calls for something wider or extended-range.
