Description

The SH-16 59/Custom isn’t a straight vintage or hot-rodded design — it’s a deliberate mashup. One coil comes straight from the ’59 model, the other from the Custom, wound together under a single Alnico 5 bar magnet. The result is a bridge pickup with articulate top end, a firm low end that doesn’t turn to mud, and a midrange that snarls a bit more than a standard ’59 would on its own.

  • Magnet: Alnico 5 bar
  • DC Resistance: 11.5k

It’s an easy pickup to place in a guitar because it doesn’t demand a special neck partner — pair it with any vintage-output neck humbucker (the ’59n and Alnico II Pro are both natural fits) and you’ve got a set that covers blues, classic rock, and pop without sounding one-dimensional. Maple or rosewood board, doesn’t matter — the hybrid voicing holds up either way.

If your guitar is wired for a coil split, tapping this pickup traditionally brings out the Custom coil, giving you a punchier single-coil-style tone rather than a thin, weak one — a nice bonus for players who like to switch textures mid-set.

The SH-16 ships in nickel-plated covers here, with a gold-plated version also available if that’s more your guitar’s style. Need wider spacing for a trem-equipped bridge, or you’re running seven strings? Seymour Duncan makes this same hybrid concept as the TB-16 and in a 7-string version.
