Description
The SH-1B is Seymour Duncan’s take on the golden-era PAF, built as the bridge counterpart to the beloved ’59 humbucker series. This 4-conductor version gives you full access to both coils, so you can wire in coil-splitting, series/parallel switching, or phase tricks alongside the standard humbucker output.
Tonally, it’s all about that late-’50s character: warm, articulate cleans that stay musical instead of muddy, and a distorted voice that’s full without turning to mush. The mids sit slightly more scooped than Duncan’s SH-55 Seth Lover, giving the ’59 a touch more clarity and separation when you dig in. Vacuum wax potting keeps things quiet and squeal-free even when you’re pushing gain or standing near stage monitors.
Under the white cover you’ll find the vintage-correct build details Duncan is known for — plain enamel wire, a long-legged baseplate, and no branding on the bobbins, keeping the look period-appropriate.
- 4-conductor lead wire for full wiring versatility
- Vintage PAF-style humbucker voicing
- Vacuum wax potted for squeal resistance
- Bridge position pickup, white cover
This pickup covers a lot of ground — country twang, jazz warmth, blues grit, funky snap, classic rock crunch, and heavier riffing all sit comfortably in its wheelhouse. Pair it with a ’59 neck for a balanced, versatile set, or team it with a hotter pickup like the SH-4 JB or SH-13 Dimebucker in the opposite position if you want extra punch on tap.
