A ceramic magnet paired with Duncan’s custom coil winding gives the SH-5 its signature attitude: compressed dynamics for consistent output, an aggressive high-end and midrange bite that cuts through a dense mix, and a punchy low end that stays tight and defined even in drop tunings — no mush, no flub.
Designed for the bridge position, the SH-5 Custom is frequently paired with an SH-1 ’59 in the neck. That combo gives you a beefed-up PAF voice up front and a vintage-correct PAF sweetness in back — a balanced, warm-sounding instrument overall. It’s especially at home on guitars with rosewood fingerboards, where the extra bite rounds out nicely.
