Description
Some pickups chase the P.A.F. sound. The SH-55N was built by the man who invented it. Seymour Duncan partnered directly with Seth Lover to reverse-engineer his own 1955 design down to the last detail, and the result is about as close to the source as you can get without a time machine.
- Alnico 2 bar magnet for that soft, rounded vintage push
- Nickel silver cover and long-legged nickel silver baseplate, matching the original spec
- Butyrate plastic bobbins, plain enamel magnet wire, wooden spacer, black paper tape
- Left unpotted, exactly like the originals
- Vintage-style single-conductor cable
Skipping the wax pot isn’t an oversight — it’s the whole point. That unpotted construction lets the coil breathe a little, giving the SH-55N a touch of open, microphonic character that many players describe as slightly “honky” in the best possible way. It’s the same trait that made the real deal so expressive on early rock, blues, jazz, and country recordings.
Best suited to the neck position in a matched neck/bridge pair, the SH-55N cleans up beautifully and still has enough girth to carry a solo. Want more bite from the bridge without losing the vintage vibe up front? Pair it with an SH-11 Custom Custom for a set that leans harder into rock territory while keeping that authentic P.A.F. neck tone intact.
