Description
Some pickups chase vintage specs. The Pearly Gates set chases a specific guitar – Billy Gibbons’ own 1959 Les Paul – and gets close enough to feel dangerous. This is a matched neck and bridge pair built to turn any Les Paul style guitar into something with real outlaw attitude.
The neck pickup replicates that original PAF’s oddball character: more midrange push than you’d expect from a late-50s bucker, but still airy and open on top thanks to its alnico 2 bar magnet. Low end stays warm and a little spongy, which makes it equally happy comping chords or singing through a lead line.
The bridge is where the story gets interesting. Seymour found that Billy’s actual bridge pickup ran hotter than typical PAFs of the era – and that extra output is baked into this reissue. Combine it with the alnico 2 magnet’s focused-but-airy treble and a pushed midrange, and you get that unmistakable Texas sizzle – a growl with real personality, not just generic hot-humbucker crunch.
- Alnico 2 bar magnets in both pickups
- Nickel silver bottom plates
- 4-conductor lead wire for coil-split, series/parallel, and other custom wiring
- Vacuum wax potted for squeal-free performance at high gain
- Wound on Seymour Duncan’s original Leesona machine from the early Gibson Kalamazoo factory
- Hand built in Santa Barbara, CA
If you want vintage PAF vibe with an extra shove of midrange grit, this calibrated set delivers it – straight from the source.
