Pearly Gates didn’t happen by accident — it was Seymour Duncan’s attempt to bottle the exact pickup magic living inside a well-worn ’59 Les Paul Standard, the guitar behind some of the rowdiest, most soulful blues-rock tone ever recorded. This SH-PG1N/SH-PG1B set brings that same DNA to your own instrument, in classic black bobbins for both neck and bridge.
Tonally, it sits just above vintage output — enough push to break up an amp with authority, but never so hot that it loses nuance. Expect a sweet, singing top end where pinch harmonics practically leap out on their own, backed by long, musical sustain and just enough grit to feel a little rebellious. Blues, classic rock, southern rock, jam bands, hard rock — this set covers all of it convincingly.
Because it leans slightly bright, Pearly Gates is an excellent match for guitars that already run warm or dark — think mahogany bodies with maple or ebony boards — and it also performs beautifully in hollow and semi-hollow bodies where clarity and note separation matter. Wired with four-conductor cable, so you’ve got the flexibility to split coils or wire up phase/series options down the road.
