Description
The SJ5B-70/74 takes everything great about a ’62 Jazz Bass — that woody warmth, the mid-range snarl, and the slightly aggressive bite when you dig in — and stretches it across five strings without losing what makes it sound like a J-bass in the first place. Seymour Duncan reworked the coil geometry and winding pattern specifically for extended-range instruments, so the low B doesn’t turn to mud and the classic articulation carries all the way through the register.
This is the bridge-position pickup, wound to vintage output for that scooped, punchy tone Jazz Bass players chase. It’s built with hand-ground alnico 5 rod magnets and Forbon flatwork, then vacuum wax potted to keep things quiet under gain or aggressive picking — no microphonic squeal creeping into your signal.
- Passive single coil, vintage output, bridge position
- Designed for traditional 5-string Jazz Bass routing (not for modern Jazz V models — use the 6770 for those)
- Alnico 5 rod magnets, hand ground
- Forbon flatwork construction
- Vacuum wax potted for squeal-free performance
- Includes black cover
- Hand built in Santa Barbara, CA
Pair it with the matching 7074 neck pickup for a complete matched set, and get the full ’62 J-tone experience across all five strings.
