Description
If you’re chasing that woody, punchy vintage J-Bass tone, the SJB-1 set is about as period-correct as it gets. Seymour Duncan hand-grinds the Alnico 5 magnets and keeps the windings moderate, which lets the low end stay full and warm without turning to mud — you still get plenty of note definition and top-end clarity for picking, slapping, or fingerstyle work. Think country twang, blues shuffles, pop lines, and classic rock — this set covers that whole territory convincingly.
This is a proper matched pair, not two identical pickups thrown together. The SJB-1N (neck) is calibrated slightly narrower than the SJB-1B (bridge) to balance output between positions, and the neck coil is wound reverse-wound/reverse-polarity. Run both pickups together and you get natural hum cancellation along with that scooped, hollow single-coil blend Jazz Bass players have chased for decades.
Each pickup ships with a waxed cloth hookup lead and a non-logo cover, so you can keep things vintage-correct visually as well as tonally. Want more control over the voicing? These pair especially well with Seymour Duncan’s STC-2 or STC-3 tone circuits if you’re looking to dial in active shaping later.
