Description
Seymour Duncan built the SJM-1 set to do one thing: sound like a 1957 Jazzmaster, not an approximation of one. That means hand-ground pole pieces, period-correct cloth wire leads, and construction details copied straight from the original spec sheet rather than guessed at. If you’ve ever wanted that airy, slightly gnarly offset tone without hunting down a genuinely vintage pickup, this is the shortcut that isn’t really a shortcut at all.
The set pairs the SJM-1n neck pickup with the SJM-1b bridge pickup. The neck unit is reverse wound/reverse polarity relative to the bridge, so when you blend both pickups together you get true hum-cancelling operation instead of just a volume boost with extra noise. Individually, each pickup retains the single-coil character Jazzmasters are known for — bright, glassy, with that slightly loose low end that makes surf and jangle tones feel effortless.
Installation is drop-in: this is a direct replacement for stock Jazzmaster pickups, no routing, no rewiring your control cavity, no modification required. Seymour Duncan includes a wiring diagram and the mounting hardware you need to get them seated and soldered in.
