Description
Seymour Duncan built the SJM-1 set to answer a simple question: what did a ’57 Jazzmaster actually sound like before decades of mods and mismatched replacement pickups muddied the picture? The answer is here in the SJM-1n neck and SJM-1b bridge units, which duplicate the original’s construction detail for detail — same cloth-covered wire leads, same hand-ground pole pieces, same overall look and feel under the pickguard.
Sonically, that means you get the breathy top-end sparkle and surprisingly muscular midrange that made the Jazzmaster’s offset voice so distinct from a Strat or Tele. The neck pickup is reverse wound/reverse polarity relative to the bridge, so running both together in the middle position cancels hum instead of stacking noise — a detail vintage-obsessed players notice immediately.
Because these are direct replacements for stock Jazzmaster pickups, there’s no routing, no soldering surprises, and no modification needed — just drop them in. Included in the box:
- SJM-1n Vintage neck pickup
- SJM-1b Vintage bridge pickup
- Wiring diagram
- Mounting hardware
- Free set of Elixir light guitar strings
Whether you’re restoring a reissue to period-correct spec or just tired of your Jazzmaster sounding thin and clanky, this set gets you into ’57 territory without hunting down actual vintage parts.
