Description
Before humbuckers, before hot rails, there were lipstick tubes — and Seymour Duncan’s SLS-1 set brings that original mid-century jangle back to your Strat. Built with Alnico 6 magnets and wound to a specific vintage-correct spec, this trio delivers the airy, chiming top-end that made surf, rockabilly, and early rock records sound the way they do. It’s also just a great-looking pickup: the tube housing gives your guitar a genuinely different visual identity on the pickguard.
What’s in the set
This is a calibrated three-pickup set, not just three identical units thrown together. You get a higher-output custom bridge pickup for a bit more push where you need it, paired with an RW/RP (reverse-wound, reverse-polarity) middle pickup for hum-cancelling in position 2 and 4, plus a standard neck pickup rounding out the voicing.
Best-suited guitars
Lipstick pickups tend to shine on warmer-sounding bodies — think ash, alder, or basswood, including hollow and semi-hollow builds. Pair with a rosewood fingerboard and you’ll get an especially sweet, articulate top end that suits country, pop, blues, surf, and classic rock playing styles.
Included: Ernie Ball 2223 Super Slinky strings
Rounding out the bundle is a free set of Ernie Ball Super Slinky electric strings — the same gauge set favored by Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, and Angus Young. Nickel-plated steel wound strings over a hex-shaped steel core, with tin-plated high carbon steel plain strings for a balanced, consistent tone. Gauges: .009, .011, .016, .024w, .032, .042.
