Description
Before humbuckers and hot ceramic magnets took over, lipstick tube pickups were quietly defining the sound of surf, rockabilly, and early rock ‘n’ roll. Seymour Duncan’s SLS-1 set revives that formula with Alnico 6 magnets and a period-correct winding spec, giving you the airy, bell-like top end and low output that made those ’50s originals so distinctive — and so instantly recognizable on a Strat.
This is a fully calibrated three-pickup set, not just a single replacement. It pairs a hotter custom bridge pickup with an RW/RP middle pickup (for that quiet, hum-cancelling position two and four click) and a standard neck pickup, so the whole set balances properly across positions without you having to guess at output matching.
- SLS-1 bridge (higher output, custom wind)
- SLS-1 RW/RP middle (reverse wound/reverse polarity for hum cancellation)
- SLS-1B neck
- Alnico 6 magnets
- Free Elixir Super Light guitar strings included
Tonally, expect bright, glassy, and articulate — ideal for country twang, surf leads, blues shuffles, and jangly classic rock rhythm work. It plays especially well with warmer-sounding bodies like ash, alder, or basswood, including hollow and semi-hollow builds, and rosewood fingerboards help round off just enough top end to keep things musical rather than harsh.
And beyond the tone, there’s the look: those slim chrome tubes are as much a visual statement as a sonic one, giving your Strat a genuinely vintage-cool silhouette that stands out from the usual single-coil crowd.
