Description
Lipstick tube pickups have a look and voice all their own, and Seymour Duncan’s SLS-1 set brings both in spades. Built around Alnico 6 magnets and wound to the same spec that made the ’50s originals famous, these units chase that shimmering, glassy top-end that made surf, rockabilly, and early rock records sound the way they do. If your playlist leans toward country twang, jangly pop, classic blues turnarounds, or vintage rock swagger, this is the tonal lane you want to be in.
- SLS-1 bridge: custom-wound for higher output, giving the bridge position a bit more push to balance the set
- SLS-1 RW/RP middle: reverse-wound/reverse-polarity for hum-cancelling in the 2 and 4 switch positions
- SLS-1B neck: standard voicing to round out the trio
The three pickups are calibrated to work together as a unit, so you’re not stuck fiddling with volume balance across positions – Seymour Duncan already did that math.
Tonally, these lipsticks favor warmer-bodied guitars – think ash, alder, or basswood, and they’re equally at home in hollow or semi-hollow builds. Pair them with a rosewood fingerboard and the brightness of the pickup gets a bit of softening on the front end, which tends to land in a genuinely sweet spot.
This bundle also throws in a free set of Ernie Ball EB2225 Extra Slinky strings, so you can get your Strat strung up and dialed in the moment the pickups are installed.
