Description
The SM-1B is Seymour Duncan’s vintage-correct take on the mini-humbucker that made Firebirds famous, built for the bridge slot where clarity and bite matter most. It’s not chasing the thick, dark growl of a full-size humbucker — instead you get a hybrid voice that sits between single-coil snap and humbucker warmth, with a distinctly ringing, “bell-like” top end that cuts through without turning harsh.
Under the cover sits an Alnico 5 magnet paired with moderate-output coil windings, the same recipe that gave the original Gibson mini-humbuckers their lively, dynamic feel. Chords stay defined, single notes have plenty of sparkle, and there’s enough push for everything from clean jazz comping to rockabilly twang, classic rock crunch, and even heavier riffing when you dig in.
Wired with vintage-style single-conductor hookup cable, it’s a straightforward, no-frills install for anyone rewiring or upgrading a mini-humbucker-equipped guitar.
- Alnico 5 magnet for authentic vintage Firebird tone
- Moderate output windings — bright, articulate, and dynamic
- Single-conductor vintage-style hookup wire
- Bridge-position voicing; matching neck version also available
Players often pair the SM-1B (bridge) with the SM-1 Vintage in the neck for a classic matched set, or drop it in front of a hotter SM-2 Custom or SM-3 Seymourized in the bridge for a two-pickup setup that spans vintage chime and higher-output versatility.
