Description
The SM-1N is Seymour Duncan’s take on the mini-humbucker that made the Firebird sound so distinct — a pickup that refuses to sit neatly in either the single-coil or humbucker camp. You get the airy top-end sparkle of a single coil, but with the low-end focus and hum-canceling stability of a full-size bucker underneath it.
Placed in the neck position, it leans toward a gritty, slightly gnarled character rather than smooth and polite. Chords come out warm and midrange-forward, while lead lines get a sizzly edge that helps them punch through a dense mix without sounding shrill. It’s a pickup with attitude baked in, not scooped-out sweetness.
- Vintage Firebird-style tonal blend: single-coil brightness meets humbucker tightness
- Gritty, midrangy voice suited to rhythm chords and cutting lead tone
- Hand wound in Santa Barbara, CA
- Drop-in fit for standard mini-humbucker routes
- Mounts with a Firebird-style ring and 3-48 humbucker screws
- Braided single-conductor lead wire included
Run it solo for a leaner, punchier neck tone, or pair it with the Vintage Mini Humbucker bridge model for the full classic Firebird pairing. Prefer more range? Team it with the Seymourized bridge version for a setup that covers more ground without losing that mini-humbucker identity.
