The SP90-3 Custom takes the classic soapbar formula and cranks the output for players who need more punch out of their P-90. Instead of the alnico found in vintage-style units, this pickup runs on two large ceramic magnets, which tighten up the low end, compress the dynamics a bit, and give every note a sharper, more immediate attack. The tradeoff is worth it if you’re chasing something beefier than a traditional P-90 can deliver.
Tonally, it’s a natural fit for players working in heavier or more aggressive territory: modern country twang with teeth, heavy blues, classic and hard rock, punk, and even metal all sit well with the Custom’s full-frequency, high-output character. It keeps the trademark soapbar bark but adds enough push to cut through a denser mix or a dirtier amp setting.
