Description
The Phat Cat solves a problem plenty of players run into: you want P90 grit but your guitar’s already carved for a humbucker. Seymour Duncan built this bridge model to slide right into that slot, no chisel required, while keeping the true single-coil Soapbar character intact underneath a humbucker-style cover.
- Full bridge-position P90 attitude — raw, growling, and a little dirty in the best way
- Bridge coil voiced for chords with shimmering top-end harmonics, plus solos that cut with genuine single-coil edge
- Dual Alnico 2 bar magnets for extended sustain and a rounder, less aggressive attack than Alnico 5
- Metal cover adds shielding beyond what a standard open Soapbar offers, cutting down on stray noise
- Vacuum wax potted to keep things quiet and squeal-free at higher gain
- Nickel silver baseplate and single-conductor braided hookup wire
- Gold cover finish
- Hand-built in Santa Barbara, CA
This pickup traces back to Custom Shop work Seymour originally did for Hamer Guitars, so the DNA here is legit vintage Soapbar, just repackaged for modern humbucker routing. Run it solo for that classic P90 rasp, or pair it with the matching Phat Cat neck pickup to build out a full set with cohesive tone across both positions.
