Description
The SSL52-1 is Seymour Duncan’s bridge-position take on the Five-Two concept, born from Nashville session players who loved Strat snap but wanted the top end a little less spiky. Rather than a single magnet type, this pickup staggers alnico 2 rods under the G, B, and E strings for a rounder, sweeter high end, while alnico 5 rods sit under the low E, A, and D for tight, articulate punch. It’s a hybrid that lets the treble strings breathe without ever letting the bass strings go soft.
Because it’s built for the bridge slot, the coil is wound hotter than a stock vintage single coil, adding extra body, sustain, and a firmer pick attack — useful when you want a bridge pickup that can hold its own without turning brittle. Pair it with the Five-Two neck pickup and the RWRP Five-Two middle pickup for a matched three-pickup set with hum-canceling in the middle positions.
Construction follows Seymour Duncan’s vintage Fender-style formula down to the details:
- Forbon flatwork in period-correct color and thickness
- Historically accurate magnet stagger pattern
- Waxed, tinned cloth pushback hook-up wire
- Traditional keyed bottom plate
- Hand-filed flatwork and hand-lacquered bobbin, built the way pickups were during Fender’s Golden Age
Finished in white to match classic single-coil pickguard aesthetics.
