Description
The Vintage Flat Strat takes the classic SSL-1 coil recipe and rethinks the magnet layout to match how Strats are actually strung and played today. Instead of staggered poles, you get hand-ground rod Alnico 5 magnets of equal length, set flush and raised evenly above the flatwork. That flat field keeps output consistent string to string, which matters a lot once you’re running an unwound G and a flatter fretboard radius that older staggered designs weren’t built for.
Tonally it sits right alongside the SSL-1 — clean, vintage-correct, with that bright bell-like chime up top. Where it distinguishes itself is in the attack: it’s noticeably sharper and more immediate than the APS-2, and you’ll feel the even response most clearly when bending. No dead strings, no sudden hot spots as your fingers move across the neck.
It’s a genuine single-coil in every sense — no stacking, no noise-cancelling tricks, just the warm, airy character that makes this style of pickup a staple for:
- Country and rockabilly twang
- Surf and classic rock leads
- Blues bends and pop rhythm work
- Ska chops and clean, articulate strumming
Each pickup ships wired with waxed cloth hookup cable and a vintage-style keyed bottom plate, so it drops into a period-correct build without hunting for extra parts.
