John Suhr worked directly with Landau to pin down the traits that separated the truly great vintage units from the merely average ones, then built that character into a pickup you can drop into any guitar today.
The ML Classic leans into a slightly lower output, more vintage-correct voice compared to its hotter sibling, the ML Standard. Expect a full, rounded midrange with airy top-end sparkle and low end that stays tight instead of flabby – the kind of balance that makes both searing leads and glassy rhythm tones feel effortless. It’s a pickup that rewards dynamics, responding to pick attack and volume-knob nuance the way the best old-school singles always have.
Every pickup in the ML line is calibrated by position, and the Classic bridge model measures 6.5K ohms DC resistance – a touch under the Standard’s 6.9K, reinforcing that softer, more traditional feel. If you’re building out a full set, the matching middle pickup is wound and polarized in reverse for hum-cancelling in position 2 and 4.
