The ML Classic Middle is built around Suhr’s take on vintage-flavored Strat tone: tight low end, a midrange that doesn’t get lost in the mix, and a top-end shimmer that stays musical instead of harsh. It’s the pickup Michael Landau reaches for when he wants that classic bright-and-punchy snap without any brittleness creeping in.
Rather than using a straight staggered pole layout, Suhr modifies the pole piece heights to even out the magnetic field across the strings. That matters more than it sounds – flatter fingerboard radii and modern string gauges can throw off the balance on old-school staggered designs, and this tweak keeps every string reading true whether you’re strumming open chords or digging into bends up the neck.
As the middle pickup, it’s wound reverse-wound/reverse-polarity, so pairing it with the neck or bridge position in a Strat’s in-between switch settings cancels hum instead of adding to it – a detail that makes a real difference live.
