Description
John Suhr didn’t just design the ML Classic in a vacuum—he built it alongside LA session heavyweight Michael Landau, working from the best-sounding pickups in Landau’s own vintage stash. The result skips the usual single-coil compromises: you get tight, controlled low end, a midrange that stays present without honking, and top-end sparkle that never turns brittle or ice-picky.
Where the ML Classic earns its name is in attitude—it’s the brighter, punchier take on the ML formula, equally happy driving a fat, singing lead or cleaning up for glassy rhythm work. A modified staggered pole piece layout keeps the magnetic field even across the strings, so flatter fingerboard radii and modern string gauges don’t leave certain strings sounding thin or overpowering.
Each pickup in the set is calibrated to its position rather than being identical off the shelf. The middle pickup is reverse wound/reverse polarity, so you get dead-quiet hum cancellation in positions 2 and 4 without sacrificing any of the character.
- Magnet: Alnico V

If you’ve been chasing that elusive ’60s-into-’70s Strat tone—full-bodied but never dull, sparkly but never harsh—the ML Classic set is built to get you there without hunting down a crate of actual vintage pickups.
