Suhr’s ML Standard takes the vintage single-coil formula and turns the output up a notch. It’s the hotter sibling in the ML lineup, wound to push a bit more sustain and drive into your signal while keeping the personality that makes 60’s-style pickups so addictive: snappy attack, articulate mids, and a top-end that stays smooth rather than harsh.
What sets ML pickups apart from generic vintage clones is the modified staggered pole piece layout. Rather than sticking to old-school pole heights that were designed around long-gone neck radiuses and string sets, Suhr reworked the stagger to create a genuinely even magnetic field across all six strings. That means players running flatter fretboard radiuses and modern string gauges get consistent output and tone from the low E through the high E, instead of some strings feeling weak or others feeling overpowering.
This particular pickup is the bridge-position version, finished in black, and built with an Alnico V magnet for that warm-but-articulate vintage pull. Hookup wire is braided cloth, keeping things period-correct and easy to work with when soldering into your harness.
