Description
The Suhr SSV neck pickup is built for players chasing genuine vintage humbucker character rather than a modern high-output approximation of it. Where many aftermarket humbuckers pile on gain and end up compressed and one-dimensional, the SSV keeps a wide dynamic window intact — pick softly and it blooms clean, dig in and it snarls with that honky upper-midrange growl vintage PAFs are known for.
This is the neck-position SSV, wound to 8K ohms DC resistance and wired with 4-conductor cable, giving you the flexibility to split coils or wire it up for series/parallel switching if your build calls for it. It’s finished with a gold cover, matching the SSV/DSV family’s chrome and gold cover options (bridge SSV pickups run 9K ohms for balanced output between positions).
Behind every SSV pickup is over 30 years of John Suhr’s pickup R&D — the kind of obsessive attention to magnet choice, wire gauge, and winding pattern that separates a pickup that merely sounds vintage from one that actually behaves like a well-loved original.
- Neck position humbucker
- DC Resistance: 8K ohms
- 4-conductor wiring for coil-split/series-parallel options
- Gold cover
- Also available in chrome cover, and black, white, or zebra open bobbins
If you want smoother, rounder highs instead, Suhr’s DSV is the companion pickup built for that voicing — but if honk and snarl are what you’re after, the SSV neck is the one.
