Description
The Thornbucker exists because Pete Thorn got tired of humbuckers that only sound good when the amp’s already dirty. Flip to the neck or middle for something clean or edge-of-breakup, and most two-humbucker guitars turn to sonic sludge—forcing players to rework their whole rig if they switch over to single coils mid-set. Pete brought that frustration to Suhr, and the two dug into what actually made the old “patent applied for” pickups from the ’50s so special: not just nostalgia, but a genuine balance of clarity, touch sensitivity, and character that modern humbuckers often lose.
Getting there meant testing magnet types, wire, covers, and winding specs against real vintage benchmarks until the formula clicked. The result is a humbucker that keeps the openness and dynamic response of a great vintage set while adding conveniences the originals never had—like four-conductor wiring for coil-splitting flexibility and a choice of spacings to match your build.
This is the 53mm bridge version in Parchment, wound for punch without sacrificing the articulate top end that makes single-note runs and chords alike sound three-dimensional instead of compressed.

- Magnet: Alnico IV
