Description
John Suhr didn’t just guess at what makes vintage single-coils great — he pulled apart the good ones, measured the gauss on the original-era magnets, and counted coil turns until he understood exactly why some 60s pickups sing and others just sit there. The V60LP is the result: a low-peak wind that mimics the looser, handwound coils found in certain early-60s units, trading a touch of top-end aggression for sweeter, rounder highs.
Slot this one in the middle position and you still get the full vintage character the V60 family is known for — chiming top end, woody midrange with real push, and low end that stays tight instead of ballooning. It’s built on the same style of magnet used in the pickups it’s modeled after, so the touch sensitivity feels authentic rather than approximated.
Where it earns its keep on a wired-up Strat-style guitar is the RWRP configuration. Wound and polarized in reverse relative to the bridge and neck pickups, it cancels hum when blended with either in positions 2 and 4 of a standard 5-way switch — no more buzzing under stage lighting or fluorescent-lit practice rooms. It also opens the door to coil-splitting tricks in those same switch positions, giving you extra tonal options beyond the classic single-coil voice.
- DC Resistance: 6.3K ohms (middle position)
- Reverse Wound / Reverse Polarity (RWRP) for hum-cancelling in positions 2 & 4
- Low-peak wind for smoother, sweeter highs than standard V60
- Vintage-spec magnet type matched to 60s-era originals
