Long before Van Zandt Pickups existed as a company, W.L. Van Zandt was already the guy Dallas/Ft. Worth players brought their pickups to. A machinist by trade and a country guitarist since the 1950s, he started rewinding magnets as favors for friends back in the early 1960s. Word spread, favors turned into orders, and by the late 1980s he’d formalized the whole operation into Van Zandt Pickups.
This Precision Bass pickup is where that decades-deep winding experience shows up in the low end. It’s voiced to chase down the classic P-Bass sound — loud, clear, and even across the strings — but dialed with a bit more output than a stock vintage unit, so it pushes harder into your amp without losing that split-coil honesty. Top end stays present instead of getting swallowed by the bottom, and the pickup responds noticeably to how hard you dig in, making it a satisfying platform whether you’re playing pick, fingerstyle, or slap.
