Before Van Zandt was a name on a pickup, it was just W.L. Van Zandt in his shop rewinding magnets for the country pickers and gigging guitarists of Dallas/Ft. Worth. A machinist by trade and a strat player since the ’50s, he built his reputation one hand-wound coil at a time — and the True Vintage is the pickup he still reaches for when he wants that early-’60s Stratocaster voice.
