Description
Long before Van Zandt Pickups existed as a company, W.L. Van Zandt was already elbow-deep in Stratocasters. A machinist by trade and a working country guitarist since the 1950s, he spent the early 1960s rewinding magnets for fellow Dallas/Ft. Worth players out of pure obsession with getting the tone right. Word spread, and eventually that garage hobby became a full-fledged pickup shop. Decades later, the True Vintage Strat set remains W.L.’s own personal favorite — the pickup he’d reach for first.
This set is built around the era players still chase: late-50s through early-60s Strat tone, with a slightly brighter edge and present mid-range that cuts through a mix without turning brittle. The middle pickup is reverse-wound to cancel hum in the classic 2 and 4 positions, paired with two standard-wound bridge/neck units for that authentic three-pickup interplay.
- One reverse-wound True Vintage middle pickup
- Two True Vintage bridge/neck pickups
- Voiced bright with strong mid presence
- Suited to country, blues, jazz, and rockabilly playing styles
- Includes a free set of Ernie Ball Regular Slinky strings
Pro Audio Land is an authorized Van Zandt dealer — every set we carry comes new, straight from J.D.’s hands in Texas, no middlemen involved.
